A Few of my Favorite Things – Baby Edition

Happy Monday y’all!

Today is a bittersweet day for me. It’s my last day of maternity leave! (Cue the ugly crying 😭) While I am excited to get back to work and have real adult conversations, I’m dreading leaving my babies. I have loved getting to stay home with them the last two months, and I’m so thankful I was able to do so!

Over the past couple months my Facebook and Instagram have been flooded with pregnancy announcements, and I absolutely love it! It makes me think about when we first found out I was pregnant with my son, and how excited I was to buy ALL the baby stuff!

You don’t realize just how much stuff there is for babies until you’re making a baby registry. I spent weeks carefully picking out everything on my first baby registry, only to sell half of it because it was never used. This time around, I had a better idea of what we needed, what I wanted, and what we would actually use. Here are a few of my tried and true favorites!

Halo SleepSack Swaddle

The Halo SleepSack Swaddle is my new must have baby item! I didn’t have it with my son, but oh how I wish I would have. I was a rookie swaddler, and he was constantly breaking out of my sad attempt at a baby straight jacket. The best thing about the Halo SleepSack Swaddle is the Velcro arms, which make swaddling a breeze! It also has an inverted zipper so you don’t even have to un-swaddle for diaper changes. The swaddle sleep sack comes in two sizes; newborn and small. I love the variety of fabrics they offer like warm minky dot and fleece for cold nights, and breathable muslin for warm days. Halo also offers the SleepSack adjustable swaddling pouch for a tighter budget, and the original SleepSack for when your little one outgrows swaddling. For big kids, they offer the SleepSack early walker, and SleepSack big kids.

Baby K’tan

The Baby K’tan is the only baby carrier I’ve ever used. It’s just so great I’ve never felt the need to try any others! It’s a fabric baby wrap/sling/carrier with multiple carry positions that fits newborns to toddlers.

As a first time mom I wanted to baby wear, but all the options, as well as the complicated wrapping techniques, were really intimidating. The baby K’tan was perfect, because it has no wrapping, buckles, or rings! You just slip it on, put the baby in, and adjust it for comfort. I also like that it’s sized like clothing for a custom fit.

This time around, I trust my Baby K’tan to safely and comfortably hold my daughter while I’m grocery shopping, cleaning, or chasing down her brother at the playground.

If your new to baby wearing and want something that will last, this is definitely a great option.

Infantino Grow-with-Me Activity Gym and Ball Pit

This was Brex’s favorite toy up until his first birthday, and has already become Brinley’s favorite, too! I can lay her on the mat with her feet close to one of the green support things so she can kick at it and make the toys move! When your little one starts scooting around, the sides pop up to offer a little containment. The hanging toys can be removed and the activity mat turns into a ball pit for little ones who can sit up on their own. This is a great quality toy that can be used for multiple children, and adapts to entertain your child through multiple developmental phases. You can also purchase extra balls for it here!

Graco Simple Sway Baby Swing

My son HATED his swing. I’m just going to go ahead and throw that out there. After a few months, I ended up selling it. We never used it, and it was just taking up room.

Even knowing this, I still put one on my registry for my daughter. All babies are different, and have different likes and dislikes. I prayed she would like it. I had wonderful visions of her contently rocking in her swing while I played with her brother or got stuff done around the house. And thank you sweet baby Jesus, she likes her swing!! It’s hit or miss, but most of the time I can swaddle her and sit her in her swing for at least 30-45 minutes.

The Graco Simple Sway Baby Swing has six swing speeds, two vibration speeds, music and nature sounds with volume controls, and mobile with soft toys for visual stimulation. It also has a wide base, which I love because it’s more sturdy so I don’t have to worry about my son knocking it over. The wider base does mean a bigger footprint, which may not work in smaller spaces. My favorite feature is the option to use batteries or with the wall plug-in. The vibrator is not powered by the plug-in and does require batteries.

If you’re a first time mom, I’d definitely say this is a registry staple. Your baby may absolutely hate it like my son did, but it’s worth having if he or she does like it! If you do end up with an unused swing, keep it. Keep it until you are DONE having kids. Your next baby may love it like my daughter. Learn from my mistakes!

I’ll be honest. When I first saw this my thought was not no, but hell no. It was the most disgusting thing I’d ever seen. Then my son caught a bad cold at three months old, and I got desperate. The bulb syringe was great for saline rinses, but it just wasn’t cutting it when it came to actually sucking out the snot. So I finally broke down and spent $20 on a snot straw. Does it look gross? Yep. Does it work? LIKE A FREAKING CHARM!! It’s like a snot vacuum for your kid’s nose!

I know it looks gross, but buy it. Seriously, just buy it. You won’t regret it.

Car Seat Cover/Nursing Scarf

I never used a car seat cover with my son. If it was raining, I would toss a blanket over his car seat to get from point A to point B.

Now we live in Texas, and it is WINDY. Like knock you down, blow you away, windy. The first time we left the house with our daughter after bringing her home, I realized how much of an issue this was going to be. I tried a blanket, but it just kept falling in on her, and trying to blow away. I ordered a carseat cover while we were sitting in the waiting room of her doctor, and I’m so glad I did. I ordered this one off of amazon, and it’s absolutely perfect! Soft, stretchy, and the pattern is beautiful! It can also be used as a cover while nursing, and to cover high chairs!

Ingenuity Soothe Me Softly Washable Playard- Piper

My biggest worry while preparing for my daughters arrival was sleep. Specifically, where she was going to sleep. While I don’t mind her napping in the bed with me during the day, co-sleeping at night makes me nervous, because it’s dark, which means I can’t see her. I also knew her sleeping in the room with her brother wasn’t going to work, because she would be waking up so often. I didn’t want to mess up the sleep schedule we had worked so hard on.

I had tried a bassinet with my son, but it was another thing we never used and ended up selling before he turned six months old. So this time around, I wanted something that she could sleep in, but I would also be able to use long term. The playards with removable newborn bassinets and changing tables, and full size bassinets were the perfect answer!

The Ingenuity is great because the fabric is removable for easy cleaning, the mattress doesn’t have to be removed before folding, and the print is just adorable! My daughter is just over two months old, and we’re about to transition from the newborn bassinet to the full size bassinet. So far we this playard has been absolutely perfect, and we’ll be able to use it for years to come!

Cloud Island Sleep N Play

When I was pregnant with my son, I spent hundreds of dollars of cute little baby outfits. I bought all of the adorable little sets with matching onesies, pants, socks, hats, and mittens. Then he was born, and I quickly learned that all those cute little baby outfits were just a pain in the butt. He lived footie pajamas unless we were actually leaving the house, and sometime even then. I mean why go through all the hassle of onesies, pants, and socks when he was just going to spit up all over it. Plus most the newborn sizes even have built in mittens!

This time around I was a little more prepared for what my daughter would actually wear for the first few months and shopped for zip up footie jammies accordingly. I also received a set of Cloud Island Sleep N Play from Target at my baby shower for my daughter, and y’all. THEY HAVE INVERTED ZIPPERS! This is the best thing since sliced bread. Seriously, why did it take so long for someone to come up with this?

I still use her jammies from Carters and Children’s Place during the day, but for bedtime I consistently find myself reaching for the super soft jammies with built in mittens AND inverted zippers by Cloud Island. They just make nighttime diaper changes so much easier, especially coupled with the inverted zipper on her Halo SleepSack.

Boppy Pillow

Thisis definitely another registry staple. It’s one of my personal favorites, because of its quality and versatility. Our Boppy Pillow is a hand-me-down from my best friend that she used with her son, I used with my son, and I’m using again with my daughter. Three kids, one pillow!

With my son we used the Boppy Pillow until he weaned at around 18 months old, but it’s not just for breastfeeding. We used it for tummy time, propping up after nursing, and sitting up, too!

The pillow itself is plain white, but you can buy really cute covers for it from places like Amazon, Target, Walmart, or Boppy’s website. You can also get handmade and custom made covers from shops like Ritzy Baby Designs on Etsy.

nūborn Silicone Breast Pump

The nūhborn silicone breast pump is quickly becoming one of my new favorite items. It’s a soft silicone pump that suctions on to your breast and gently draws out milk. I love to use it on one side while my daughter nurses on the other to catch leaks. I normally use it in the morning, and most of the time I get one to two ounces! The nūhborn comes in pink and clear, is made of FDA approved food safe silicone, and comes with a dust cover and cotton carry bag.

Learning which baby products will work for your family is a trial and error process, and what works for one baby may not work for another. Just relax and remember that YOU are what your baby wants most!

What is your favorite baby item? What do you recommended for first time moms? I’d love to hear from you about your experiences. Drop me a message below!

FabFitFun Spring Box Review

For the past week I’ve been commuting an hour to take an 8 am to to 5 pm life, health, and accident insurance class. Sounds fun, right? This was also Squish’s first week at daycare. So, to say it’s been a long week is a slight understatement.

Thankfully my little monster loves his new teachers, and I passed my insurance test!
So after a long exhausting week, you know what was an awesome surprise? (And by surprise I mean I’ve been waiting on this box to arrive since I signed up back in February and have been obsessively checking the tracking number)

The FabFitFun Spring Box!

Get yours here!!

I was so excited to see what awesome surprises would be in this seasons box, and I was not disappointed!

My favorite is the the adorable Gypsy05 Roundie! I absolutely can’t wait to use it this summer.

So here’s everything that was in the Spring Box.

Not only is this box FULL of amazing goodies, but it was only $50! That’s right, FIFTY DOLLARS. Y’all, this is over THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS WORTH OF GOODIES!

I freaking LOVE almost everything in this box. The earrings are insanely adorable, the roundie couldn’t be cuter, and this “resting beach face” cosmetics bag is just plain perfect.

The only thing I’m not crazy about is the lip kit, and that’s really only the shade. I have darker lips, and the lighter color just doesn’t suit me.

I can’t wait to try the leave in conditioner, exfoliator, and sheet masks. I’ll be posting reviews on everything as I use it.

So if you want to order your FabFitFun Summer box, click here and get 10% off!

Did you get the Spring Box? What’s your favorite thing from this seasons box? Leave a comment and let me know! ☺️

pūr~lisse Blue Lotus Seed Mud Mask Review

I’ve been meaning to post this review for a few weeks, but with everything going on it’s just slipped my mind!

I got this product in January ipsy bag. If you haven’t signed up for ipsy by now, you’re missing out! It’s $10 a month for an adorable makeup bag full of awesome samples. I’ve gotten mascaras, eyeliners, masks, moisturizers, makeup brushes, and more! You seriously can’t beat it.

This has been one of my favorite products by far. I’ve almost used it all up, and I’ll be ordering more when I do!!

This 10 minute exfoliating facial is full of good for your skin ingredients like:

  • Blue Lotus Seed – powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory
  • White Clay – tightens skin & purifies pores
  • Bamboo – improves skin texture
  • Ginger – detoxifies
  • Mushroom extract -brightens skin tone
  • White Tea – soothes skin
  • Rice Bran Water – improves skin texture

I have really sensitive skin so I have to be careful with really strong masks and cleansers. This mask is wonderfully gentle but effective!

Apply the mask in a nice thick layer on clean dry skin avoiding your eyes and mouth (duh). Let it dry completely! This normally
takes about 10 minutes depending on how thick you apply the mask.

Look at all the oil and nasty stuff it’s drawing out!

Use a wash cloth and warm water to gently wipe off mask using small circular motions. Rinse and dry your face and follow with pūr~lisse moisturizer.

When I first put the mask on, it does have a slightly tingly warm feeling. Not really a burning sensation and not uncomfortable, but enough to notice. This goes away after a minutes or two.

What is your favorite mask or at home facial? Have you ever used pūr~lisse? Let me know in the comments below! I would love to hear from you! 💜💜💜

My Top 10 Favorite Books & Series

bib·li·o·phile (ˈbiblēəˌfīl/) – noun; a person who collects or has a great love of books.

Let me start by saying I freaking LOVE to read. I’m one of those people who will stay up all night just to finish a book. I devour them by the truck load, and I can’t resist a good series. Most of the time I would much rather read than pretty much anything else.

My taste in books tends to lean towards the raunchy side, with my favorite being a good paranormal romance. If it’s got steamy sex scenes featuring vampires, werewolves, faeries, gods, or mythological creatures, I’m all over it. I love a good fantasy/sci-fi, too. Think steampunk, kings and queens, and alien invasions 😍

Warning: These books contain graphic sexual situations and are intended for mature audiences.

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links, which means that if you click on one of the product links, I’ll receive compensation from purchases made through the links provided.

Ok ok, here’s what you really came here for.

My Top 10
The Little Dragons – Rowan Starsmith

It may have been a few years since I read this book, but it is still one of my all time favorites! It’s a thrilling fantasy centered on a quest to find the secret of priestesses who cared for the little dragons.

The Game of Thrones  – George R. R. Martin

These became somewhat of an obsession for many over the past couple of years. HBO came out with a pretty amazing show, but like book lovers every where will tell you, the books are so much better!! With kings and queens, secrets, sex, betrayal, spies, murder, monsters, giant wolves, and dragons, there’s so much to love!
George R. R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones 5-Book Boxed Set (Song of Ice and Fire series): A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, and A Dance with Dragons

The Girl in the Box – Robert J. Crane

This series stars 17 year Sienna who is thrust out into the big bad world on her own and has to learn how to keep herself alive and who she can trust.
The Girl in the Box Series, Books 1-3: Alone, Untouched and Soulless

The Dowser Series – Meghan Ciana Doidge

Ok ya’ll, I’m pretty sure these books were made specifically for me. They feature a cupcake baking, magic wielding, butt kicking heroine who is constantly getting herself into sticky situations. Cupcakes and magic? Does it get any better?
Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (The Dowser Series) (Volume 1)

50 Shades of Grey – E L James

This is another series that quickly gained popularity. At its core it’s a love story, but this isn’t your Mama’s romance novel. Whips, and chains, and blindfolds! Oh my! 😍
Fifty Shades Trilogy (Fifty Shades of Grey / Fifty Shades Darker / Fifty Shades Freed)

King’s – Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

Y’all, I can’t even. I loved these books! This thrilling modern romance will dominate your bookshelf 😏
King’s: Book 1, The KING Trilogy (Volume 1)

The Others series – Christine Warren

My love for this series started with She’s No Faerie Princess, and I quickly devoured the whole series! It can be read out of order, but it works a lot better when you read them in order. This is a series of paranormal romance novels, with each book featuring a forming relation ship between were-people, vampires, faeries, and more!
The Others (15 Book Series)

Thieves Series – Lexi Blake

This series focuses on seriously HOT love triangle between human and supernatural artifact thief Zoey, her vampire ex boyfriend Daniel, and the promiscuous earthbound faerie prince Devinshea.
Thieves (7 Book Series)

Crossfire Series – Sylvia Day

I read this series after finished the 50 Shades series, and honestly I liked it even more! While it still has all of the steamy BDSM scenes you fell in love with in 50 Shades, I think it has a more interesting plot line.
Sylvia Day Crossfire Novels 1-4

The Artifact Hunters – A. W. Exley

This steampunk romance set in Victorian era Londan is full of intrigue, mystery, sex, and secrets!

The Artifact Hunters Bundle: Books 1, 2, 3 and 4

To say it was hard to narrow all of my favorite books and series down to just ten, is an understatement. I spent a couple days scrolling through my iBooks app at the hundreds of books I’ve downloaded, some of which I haven’t even read yet 😱, and after going back and forth a half a dozen times I think I’ve finally got it. At least until I find my new favorite!

The Bride Box Review

Is there anything better than monthly subscription boxes? I vote no. I’ve been getting the Ipsy bags for a few months now, and I’ve always loved them. So after we got engaged on Christmas, I decided to see if there were any subscriptions tailored to brides.

Introducing THE BRIDE BOX!
I was so excited to find this. At only $35 a month with free shipping, it’s definitely an affordable subscription.

Before signing up, I checked out a few reviews online to make sure it was something I’d be interested in. My favorite place for subscription reviews is My Subscription Addiction. I always check here first because she’s got honest reviews. There’s also usually a promo code!

Check here for the review and $5 off!

I ordered my box the first week of January, and the website said they would ship between the 15th and the 20th of each month. My box shipped on the 18th, and arrived today on the 21st. Gotta love quick shipping! 👍🏼

I was so pumped when I saw the mailman with my box this morning! Squish and I were on our way to town so I thought I’d wait until I got home to open it. Well, patience has never been my strong suit, and I ended up opening it in the car waiting on my ClickList order at Kroger. ClickList is also pretty high up on my list of favorite things, too by the way.

Each month The Bride Box comes with 5 products tailored picked for brides-to-be including apparel, beauty products, crafts and DIYS, and accessories.

The January Bride Box

A personalized “Bride” tumbler from Coastal Creative Designs – $12 value

This is probably my favorite item from this box! A great way to encourage myself to drink more water so I can be a happy and healthy bride!
Jasmine lily bodycream from honey belle (with promo code) – $12 value

Y’all, this stuff smells SO GOOD. I love that’s it’s all natural ingredients!
Nail polish by ella + mila in Honeymoon Bliss – $10.50 value

This picture doesn’t do the color justice! It’s a very pretty pale mauvey-pink color perfect for spring or bridal manicures 💅🏼 I love this brand because they don’t use a lot of the really bad chemicals (Formaldehyde, Toluene, DiButyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, TPHP, Xylene) and they’re animal cruelty free!
Lip gloss from be a bombshell in pink punch – $6.00 value

I’m not a big fan of lip gloss, because I don’t like the sticky feeling most of them have, but I do really like this color.
Heart foil Mr. And Mrs. coasters from Jupiter and Juno – $15 value

These are so cute! I’m definitely saving two for our wedding, and making one into a magnet for the fridge! Not sure about the other 2 yet!
A customizable wooden “Bride” sign from Z Create Design – $35 for both signs

Another favorite from this box! I love painting and anything DIY, so this is right up my alley. I’ll be ordering the matching “groom” sign very soon!

All together this retails at around $90! So for $30, it’s a total steal!

I already can’t wait for next months box!

Colossal Big Shot Mascara Review

A few weeks ago I received the Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara complimentary from Influenster to do some testing.

I also received the Master Precise Curvy eyeliner as a bonus.

I normally use Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, but this mascara makes some pretty big claims so I figured I’d give it a shot. I mean, thats kind of the whole point of me getting it.

Anyways, the claim is “fully loaded volume in one coat”. I was pretty skeptic, since even with the BTS I do two or three coats.

So to test it out, I did Too Faced on the right, and Maybelline on the left.

With the first coat, there’s really not much difference between the two. Unfortunately, Maybelline failed to live up to the “one coat” claim.

So I tried two coats.

This is where the Too Faced masacara starts to shine. Lengthens, volumizes, and doesn’t clump!

Unfortunately, the Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara started getting clumpy. I honestly think it’s more because of the weird wand then the actual mascara itself.

At the end of the day, I would give the Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara a 6.

Length – 7

Volume – 8

Clumping – 4

Russian Piping Tips: Part One

About a week ago I did a giveaway on my Facebook page for a dozen cupcakes. So of course, everything fell apart this week and I’m just now getting around to making them. But thanks to my procrastinating ways, I got to use my new Russian piping tips on them!

I got these in the mail a few days ago and have been DYING to use them! I’ve seriously wanted these for about 6 months!

When I first opened the box, I’ve gotta admit. I was a little intimidated. These things are MASSIVE. So this morning I decided to break them out and give it a shot.

Russian piping top compared to a regular tip
There is a SERIOUS learning curve to these things. After scraping the icing off of the first cupcake for like the eighth time, I finally got the hang of it. One thing I did notice is the icing needs to be a good bit stiffer than what I normally use to hold it’s shape. So I kept having to put the bag in the fridge to keep it from melting from me holding it.
I only tried one, but I can’t wait to try the rest! I think I’ll watch some tutorials and try to get a better understanding of them before I try them again though.

This is the tip I used to get the flowers on these cupcakes!

Munch Mitt Review

Over the past few weeks Squishy has been teething like crazy and wanting to chew on EVERYTHING! One issue we’ve been having is that he hasn’t quite mastered holding something while he chews on it. He can pick it up and get it to his mouth, but will drop it after a few seconds. This is the worst thing that could ever happen and will likely cause the apocalypse, based on his reaction anyways.

We tried the Nuk bandanna teething bib, but as cute as it was, he didn’t particularly care for it.

One day I was scrolling through my news feed on IG and one of my friends who works at The Cinnamon Tree posted a picture of the perfect solution!

Y’all, he freaking LOVES this thing.

It’s basically a mitt that velcros on his hand and has a rubber tip with little bumps on it that he can chew on. It keeps him from sucking and chewing on his poor little hands and the textured rubber part massages his little gums.

Fun features:

  • crinkle noise
  • black and white polka dot pattern
  • bright color contrast
  • food grade textured and flexible silicone
  • can be worn on either hand

It also comes with a Travel/Wash bag which makes cleaning and keeping the mitt clean super easy! I just throw Squishy’s in the washing mashing with his clothes when I do laundry a few times a week!

We’ve had it for a few weeks now and he still loves it! I definitely recommend this for teething little ones!

You can buy yours local at the Cinnamon tree, or order one at The Munch Mitt

Harvest Snaps Review

I’m always excited to try new foods. Especially new SNACK FOODS. So when I opened my Flawless Voxbox from Influenster, I was really excited to see these Snapea Crisps by Harvest Snaps!

Apparently someone else was excited to try them, too. Blair ate half the bag while I was changing Squishy’s diaper!

Well thankfully I at least got to try a few before he DEVOURED them.

I’m not really a big fan of “healthy” snacks, so I wasn’t crazy about these. They had the texture of cheese puffs, but little flavor. Blair, who loves all things healthy, freaking loves them  and ate the whole bag. So while I won’t be buying these for ME, I’ll be ordering some for Blair for his stocking the Christmas!

Flawless VoxBox

Want to know what puts me in a FANTASTIC mood? Opening my front door and seeing a brand spanking new Voxbox from Influenster! 😬😍 I’ve been “patiently” waiting on this to come on (read: checking the mail multiple times a day), and it’s here!

I didn’t really realize how bad we need a new welcome mat until I took this picture. 😖

This is one of the best boxes I’ve gotten so far! It’s packed full of awesome goodies I can’t wait to try!

Here’s a list of the wonderful goodies in the new Flawless Voxbox from Influenster:

  • Dr Teal’s Eucalyptus Epsom Salt Soak
  • Simple Skincare Facial Cleansing Wipes
  • SinfulColors Nail Polish in Miss Klaws
  • Harvest Snaps Snapea Crisps
  • Yogi Tea: Honey Lavender Stress Relief and Soothing Rose Hibiscus Skin DeTox
  • Covergirl So Lashy! Mascara
  • hello Breathapray in Pure Mint
  • Bonus: Simple Skincare Micellar Water Sample

I’all be posting reviews of each product as I try them, so stay tuned! 😁😘

Disclaimer: I received these products free from Influenster for testing purposes.
