Over the Weekend

We had a pretty great weekend here!

Nana and Big Daddy came to town Thursday to get their king cake. Just kidding, Nana had a doctors appointment here in town so I made them a king cake to take home.

Anyways, Friday night we all went out to eat at El Sombrero, our local Mexican restaurant. Seriously, nothing beats Mexican food and a cold Bud Light. ๐Ÿ˜

After dinner everyone came back to our apartment for king cake and coffee. It was awesome to just sit around talking, laughing, and spending time together. We don’t get to do it much anymore, so I enjoy it even more when we do.

And then Saturday. Oh y’all, SATURDAY. Guess what I did. Just guess!

I had an appointment at The Bridal Path and Alfred Angelo in Jackson. I took my mom, my stepmom Crystal, Nana, my sisters Katie, Aspyn, and Amie, and my best friend Tory. Squish was supposed to stay with a baby sitter while we went to Jackson, but she ended up getting sick Friday night so he got to go with us, too!
Lace, and tulle, and beading! Oh my! I honestly couldn’t even tell you how many dresses I tried on. After a while I lost count and they all started blending together.

I found a dress I liked at both salons, but I’m not 100% so we’re going to keep looking. I’m not sure what’s worse; not knowing what you want, or knowing EXACTLY what you want and not finding it.

My best friend of almost 13 years and I

It was incredibly fun to get to spend time with all of the women and girls in my life who mean so much to me. I can’t wait to do it again!

My beautiful baby sister Aspyn and Squish

Squish and I spent Sunday catching up on sleep and relaxing, and we went on a walk around our neighborhood.

Unfortunately, Squish decided to go on a nursing strike Sunday afternoon that lasted about 12 hours. He finally gave in around 4:30 this morning thanks to a little sugar water on Mommy’s nipple ๐Ÿ˜‚

I don’t have any plans for this week, but this weekend Squish and I will be headed out of town for my god-daughter’s competition dance classes! It will be nice to get out of town for a little while and change things up.

What did you do over the weekend? Any big plans for the upcoming weekend? I would love to hear from you in the comments below!!

Aaron Brexย

It’s only taken my nine months, but here it finally is ๐Ÿ˜‚
Aaron Brex Denman was born at 11:20 p.m. on April 18th, 2016. He weighed 6 lbs 4 oz and was 19 inches long with a 13 inch head.

He was born 3 weeks early by emergency C-section after 11 hours of labor. He had a few issues with his breathing so he was on oxygen and an IV for fluids and antibiotics.

He’s seriously the cutest most perfect thing in the entire world!
People always tell you that you never know love until you lay eyes on your child for the first time. They’re totally right. The way I feel about this tiny little human defies logic and reason. I question every little mark that I see, worry about every feeding and diaper change, jump at every little noise he make, constantly check to make sure he’s breathing, and am totally content to just sit and stare at him.
But seriously, look at that face!!!

Mardi Gras King Cake

As you know, I’ve been dieting pretty hard since Christmas trying to lose all the baby weight before we get married in November.

That means there haven’t been a lot of good desserts coming through my kitchen here lately.(cue sad face ๐Ÿ˜ญ)

Alas, it’s Mardi Gras season, and that means king cakes are all over Facebook, IG, and Pinterest. And I’ve been dying to not only eat one, but to try my hand at making this classic brioche style dessert.

The history behind the king cake itself, is actually pretty cool. It symbolizes the three wise men who brought gifts to baby Jesus after he was born. The colors have their own meaning with purple representing justice, green for faith, and gold for power. The round shape represents the crowns of the kings and the plastic baby represents baby Jesus! How cool is that?!

So when my Big Daddy posted on Facebook that he wanted a king cake, I jumped at the oppurtunity to make one!

Besides, king cake calories don’t count ๐Ÿ˜‚โœŒ๐Ÿผ๏ธ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

After scouting Pinterest , I decided on this recipe from Barbara Bakes. I like this recipe because it’s very detailed and leaves little room for mistakes. Seriously, it’s pretty fool proof! Which is right up my alley ๐Ÿ˜‚

I’ll leave the main recipe part to her since she does such an amazing job, but I will give you my recipe for the fillings I used.

My family has never cared for the traditional cinnamon filling in king cakes, with my grandparents favoring a fruit and cream cheese filling and myself being a chocoholic.

For my grandparents king cake I did a raspberry cream cheese filling, and for ours I did a chocolate cream cheese. Y’all, I could have sat and eaten these fillings out of the bowl with a spoon they were SO GOOD!!

Raspberry Cream Cheese Filling

  • 8 oz softened cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (more or less to taste)
  • 8 oz raspberry preserve
  1. Beat cream cheese in stand mixer with paddle attatchment until smooth
  2. Add powdered sugar and beat again until smooth
  3. When you’re putting the filling in the dough, layer the cream cheese first, and then spread the preserve on top of the cream cheese

Chocolate Cream Cheese Filling

  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 8 oz softened cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  1. Melt chocolate in microwave safe bowl in the microwave 30 seconds at time, stirring well after each time (be careful not to burn it!)
  2. Let chocolate cool while you beat cream cheese in a stand mixer with a paddle attatchmemt until smooth
  3. Add chocolate to cream cheese and mix until smooth
  4. Spread on king cake dough

Where is your favorite place to get a king cake? Do you have a recipe that you swear by or a favorite filling? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you!

My Top 10 Favorite Books & Series

bibยทliยทoยทphile (หˆbiblฤ“ษ™หŒfฤซl/) – noun; a person who collects or has a great love of books.

Let me start by saying I freaking LOVE to read. I’m one of those people who will stay up all night just to finish a book. I devour them by the truck load, and I can’t resist a good series. Most of the time I would much rather read than pretty much anything else.

My taste in books tends to lean towards the raunchy side, with my favorite being a good paranormal romance. If it’s got steamy sex scenes featuring vampires, werewolves, faeries, gods, or mythological creatures, I’m all over it. I love a good fantasy/sci-fi, too. Think steampunk, kings and queens, and alien invasions ๐Ÿ˜

Warning: These books contain graphic sexual situations and are intended for mature audiences.

Ok ok, here’s what you really came here for.

My Top 10
The Little Dragons – Rowan Starsmith

It may have been a few years since I read this book, but it is still one of my all time favorites! It’s a thrilling fantasy centered on a quest to find the secret of priestesses who cared for the little dragons.

The Game of Thrones  – George R. R. Martin

These became somewhat of an obsession for many over the past couple of years. HBO came out with a pretty amazing show, but like book lovers every where will tell you, the books are so much better!! With kings and queens, secrets, sex, betrayal, spies, murder, monsters, giant wolves, and dragons, there’s so much to love!
George R. R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones 5-Book Boxed Set (Song of Ice and Fire series): A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, and A Dance with Dragons

The Girl in the Box – Robert J. Crane

This series stars 17 year Sienna who is thrust out into the big bad world on her own and has to learn how to keep herself alive and who she can trust.
The Girl in the Box Series, Books 1-3: Alone, Untouched and Soulless

The Dowser Series – Meghan Ciana Doidge

Ok ya’ll, I’m pretty sure these books were made specifically for me. They feature a cupcake baking, magic wielding, butt kicking heroine who is constantly getting herself into sticky situations. Cupcakes and magic? Does it get any better?
Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (The Dowser Series) (Volume 1)

50 Shades of Grey – E L James

This is another series that quickly gained popularity. At its core it’s a love story, but this isn’t your Mama’s romance novel. Whips, and chains, and blindfolds! Oh my! ๐Ÿ˜
Fifty Shades Trilogy (Fifty Shades of Grey / Fifty Shades Darker / Fifty Shades Freed)

King’s – Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

Y’all, I can’t even. I loved these books! This thrilling modern romance will dominate your bookshelf ๐Ÿ˜
King’s: Book 1, The KING Trilogy (Volume 1)

The Others series – Christine Warren

My love for this series started with She’s No Faerie Princess, and I quickly devoured the whole series! It can be read out of order, but it works a lot better when you read them in order. This is a series of paranormal romance novels, with each book featuring a forming relation ship between were-people, vampires, faeries, and more!
The Others (15 Book Series)

Thieves Series – Lexi Blake

This series focuses on seriously HOT love triangle between human and supernatural artifact thief Zoey, her vampire ex boyfriend Daniel, and the promiscuous earthbound faerie prince Devinshea.
Thieves (7 Book Series)

Crossfire Series – Sylvia Day

I read this series after finished the 50 Shades series, and honestly I liked it even more! While it still has all of the steamy BDSM scenes you fell in love with in 50 Shades, I think it has a more interesting plot line.
Sylvia Day Crossfire Novels 1-4

The Artifact Hunters – A. W. Exley

This steampunk romance set in Victorian era Londan is full of intrigue, mystery, sex, and secrets!

The Artifact Hunters Bundle: Books 1, 2, 3 and 4

To say it was hard to narrow all of my favorite books and series down to just ten, is an understatement. I spent a couple days scrolling through my iBooks app at the hundreds of books I’ve downloaded, some of which I haven’t even read yet ๐Ÿ˜ฑ, and after going back and forth a half a dozen times I think I’ve finally got it. At least until I find my new favorite!

One Pan Meal Prep

I will spend all day making cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and pastries, but when it comes to “healthy” cooking, I am spectacularly lazy.

This is why the One Pan Meal Prep is not only my go-to, but pretty much the only way I’ll prep healthy meals for the week.
In this prep I did ginger sesame chicken, broccoli, sweet potatoes, and carrots.

We pretty much always have chicken breasts (thanks babe ๐Ÿ˜˜), so all I had to buy was the marinade and veggies. It only cost me $5.00. You read that right, FIVR DOLLARS for four meals!

I took two chicken breasts and cut them into 2″ pieces and marinated them the day before.

When you get ready to cook everything, preheat your oven to 375 degrees and line a cookie sheet with foil. Put your marinated chicken in the center of your cookie sheet. Then you basically just chop all your veggies up and put them on either sides of your chicken, give a quick spray with cooking oil, and toss on some sea salt.
I like to do at least 3-4 different veggies so I’m not eating the same exact thing every. single. night. Dieting is hard enough without it being BORING.

After you have everything laid out, bake it for about 20 minutes, or until your chicken is done. Most of your veggies should be cooked, but sometimes I have to put the sweet potatoes back in for another 10 minutes if I don’t cut them small enough.

Once everything is done cooking, just slice your chicken and pack it all up! I normally do 6-7 oz of chicken per meal with 1(ish) cup of a veggie. I’m not really strict on measuring the veggies. ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿป

All together this probably takes about 5 minutes of prep, 20 minutes to cook, and 5 minutes to package!

The only thing easier than this is maybe a crock pot meal. Which reminds me, I really need to start using my crock pot again! ๐Ÿค”

What are your favorite healthy recipes??

๏ปฟThe Bride Box Review

Is there anything better than monthly subscription boxes? I vote no. I’ve been getting the Ipsy bags for a few months now, and I’ve always loved them. So after we got engaged on Christmas, I decided to see if there were any subscriptions tailored to brides.

Introducing THE BRIDE BOX!
I was so excited to find this. At only $35 a month with free shipping, it’s definitely an affordable subscription.

Before signing up, I checked out a few reviews online to make sure it was something I’d be interested in. My favorite place for subscription reviews is My Subscription Addiction. I always check here first because she’s got honest reviews. There’s also usually a promo code!

Check here for the review and $5 off!

I ordered my box the first week of January, and the website said they would ship between the 15th and the 20th of each month. My box shipped on the 18th, and arrived today on the 21st. Gotta love quick shipping! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

I was so pumped when I saw the mailman with my box this morning! Squish and I were on our way to town so I thought I’d wait until I got home to open it. Well, patience has never been my strong suit, and I ended up opening it in the car waiting on my ClickList order at Kroger. ClickList is also pretty high up on my list of favorite things, too by the way.

Each month The Bride Box comes with 5 products tailored picked for brides-to-be including apparel, beauty products, crafts and DIYS, and accessories.

The January Bride Box

A personalized “Bride” tumbler from Coastal Creative Designs – $12 value

This is probably my favorite item from this box! A great way to encourage myself to drink more water so I can be a happy and healthy bride!
Jasmine lily bodycream from honey belle (with promo code) – $12 value

Y’all, this stuff smells SO GOOD. I love that’s it’s all natural ingredients!
Nail polish by ella + mila in Honeymoon Bliss – $10.50 value

This picture doesn’t do the color justice! It’s a very pretty pale mauvey-pink color perfect for spring or bridal manicures ๐Ÿ’…๐Ÿผ I love this brand because they don’t use a lot of the really bad chemicals (Formaldehyde, Toluene, DiButyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, TPHP, Xylene) and they’re animal cruelty free!
Lip gloss from be a bombshell in pink punch – $6.00 value

I’m not a big fan of lip gloss, because I don’t like the sticky feeling most of them have, but I do really like this color.
Heart foil Mr. And Mrs. coasters from Jupiter and Juno – $15 value

These are so cute! I’m definitely saving two for our wedding, and making one into a magnet for the fridge! Not sure about the other 2 yet!
A customizable wooden “Bride” sign from Z Create Design – $35 for both signs

Another favorite from this box! I love painting and anything DIY, so this is right up my alley. I’ll be ordering the matching “groom” sign very soon!

All together this retails at around $90! So for $30, it’s a total steal!

I already can’t wait for next months box!

Colossal Big Shot Mascara Review

A few weeks ago I received the Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara complimentary from Influenster to do some testing.

I also received the Master Precise Curvy eyeliner as a bonus.

I normally use Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, but this mascara makes some pretty big claims so I figured I’d give it a shot. I mean, thats kind of the whole point of me getting it.

Anyways, the claim is “fully loaded volume in one coat”. I was pretty skeptic, since even with the BTS I do two or three coats.

So to test it out, I did Too Faced on the right, and Maybelline on the left.

With the first coat, there’s really not much difference between the two. Unfortunately, Maybelline failed to live up to the “one coat” claim.

So I tried two coats.

This is where the Too Faced masacara starts to shine. Lengthens, volumizes, and doesn’t clump!

Unfortunately, the Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara started getting clumpy. I honestly think it’s more because of the weird wand then the actual mascara itself.

At the end of the day, I would give the Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara a 6.

Length – 7

Volume – 8

Clumping – 4
